Summer is here!!! After the polar vortex in NYC and Moscow we are super excited to get some sun and enjoy the beautiful weather. Traditionally the events opening the summer season are the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix. This was a perfect opportunity for all three of us to reunite and have some fun. While awaiting Liza to arrive from Moscow, Natalia and I attended a few events during the festival. Beginning with the Chopard Gold Party, held in honour of the 60th anniversary of the Palme d’Or. What’s the Palme d’Or you ask? Oh, only the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival! During the night we were shown a documentary called “The Legend of the Palme d’Or” which featured interviews with past winners including Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese and Jane Campion. The party itself was held in a seaside tent, decorated to look like a goldmine. There were even carts filled with gold ingots! Robbie Williams gave a wonderful performance, and we danced the night away to his hits while sipping champaign.
Now it was time to attend the biggest and most awaited event of the festival, the amfAR gala. The 22nd annual Cinema Against AIDS Gala was held at the Eden Roc Hotel in Antibes, France on May 21. It raised more than $30 million for amfAR’s AIDS research programs for the search for a cure. The undisputed highlight of the evening’s live auction, led by auctioneer Simon de Pury, was a stunning 18½ foot tall sculpture by Jeff Koons, titled Coloring Book. After a lively round of bidding, the work, part of Koons’ Celebration Series, sold for over $13 million. This night was a huge success for amfAR. It was magical and fun. The room was filled with the top actors, models, and enterpenures. It was a great mix of guests that flew in from all over the world. I ran into David Gandy and had to take a picture with him and meet him!!! May I tell you he was just charming and even more handsom in real life. After I regained my sanity from meeting David, I went onto having fun and enjoying the event; from the Andrea Botocheli’s performance to the fashions worn by all the top models, to running into Tom Ford with his girls. After a long night if excitement, dancing and drinking it was time to go home and get some rest, as the big Grand Prix final party was coming up a day later. Thank God I had one day of much needed rest in between!
For the final event of this incredible week, Natalia, Liza and I were reunited and as we got ready for the party, which starts just after lunchtime. The Grand Prix closing party is held at the Monaco beach, in the Sunset Lounge. It includes a great DJ, dancing, and of course champaign showers, which I am not a fan of! If you get sprayed you basically stink for the rest of the night, not to mention ruin your clothes. Which actually is the logic of everyone wearing their most disposable clothing, because they know what’s coming! This is why the three of us came prepared and brought ziplock bags, so our Chanel’s would not get ruined. This year it was great fun as there was a large group of us and we had a great time. The Sunset Lounge is all white and on a sandy beach under the open sky. Its a party that starts at 4pm and goes all night long. The final closure are the grand fireworks!!!
