For autumn/winter, what else gets us more excited than sequins and cashmere? With all the grey days and even longer nights, we feel a need to compensate the absence of sun with pretty, shiny things while simultaneously wrapping ourselves in as many blankets as possible. And with that, this post makes me feel a little bit like Santa, bestowing upon you the gift of comfort and glamour all in one. Narcissism, its back and ready to rumble folks.
When I saw this picture of my good friend, Ester Shenkman, in Fashion IQ I thought, comfort and coziness mixed with glam accessories, I love it. A couple days later, whilst researching for the “The Mix Masters” post, I came across an image from the Dries Van Noten Fall 2014 show that really sparked my interest in the oversized sweater/glam skirt combination.
Both skirts, shoes by Dries Van Noten. Ester’s sweater by Celine. Lanvin clutch. Erickson Beamon jewelry.

This look is nothing extraordinary, but it is unusual. Take a cue from the designers featured here and build your look with analogous colors. For the bottom, obviously, go wild but top it off with a calm sweater; architectural cuts seemed to be favored here. As for the one question that is concerning us all, is this even flattering? I mean, I love me some sequins but not if its going to make me look shorter AND wider!
For those of us with a love for oversized tops and a chest size of a D cup or more, we are going to have to work at it for a little bit. I suggest a cropped top and a high waisted skirt, cozy and you still have your waist.
Good luck and most importantly, have fun with it!
